It all began in September of 1964 when I was paired with Gloria Carlson as my freshman roommate at UC Berkeley. Oh, the stories of that year!
I had a mischievous, brilliant, kind roomie who broke curfew, climbed through windows, participated in water wars that flooded our dorm room floor but who also had an unbelievable vocabulary and saved my writing assignments with adjectives and dinner rolls. We shared clothes, a record player, heartfelt conversations, and intellectual discussions.
From the experiences of that year, a lifelong friendship was forged and of course, Jack was a huge part of it along with Lindsay and Brad and eventually my family of Howard, Jeff, and Sarah.
I remember clearly when Gloria and Lindsay called me their first day at Cal. They were assigned roommates. No doubt alphabetical order (brown-Carlson).
I have known Lindsay ( and her twin brother Doug) since when we grew up together in Woodland Ca.
I knew Gloria from Grant High School in north Sacramento. She was the smartest person in our class, student body everything. Loved by all of her classmates.
When they discovered they had a mutual friend in me and called in 1964 I knew immediately they would be best friends for life.
Here’s to best friends for life.
